Adenosine works in the energy transfer-as adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and adenosine diphosphate (ADP)-as well as in signal transduction as cyclic adenosine monophosphate, cAMP. It shows neuromodulatory, cytoprotective, anti-inflammatory and cardioprotective actions.
