PLLA(4k)-PEG(3k)-VS is a diblock amphipathic polymer which can form micelles upon dispersion in an aqueous media. The polymer is biodegradable via hydrolytic attack on the ester linkages. The OH terminals on poly(L-lactide) side can be further derivatized while the vinyl moiety can react with thiol compound via thiol-ene reaction. This class of polymer enables new avenues for drug delivery, gene therapy, and tissue engineering.
