PLA(2k)-mPEG(5k) is a block copolymer containing a hydrophobic racemic of PLA block and a hydrophilic PEG segment. Upon water dispersion, the polymer self-assembles to form micelles with the PLA being shielded from the water (core) and the PEG facing the water (shell). The core of micelles can serve as reservoirs for hydrophobic drugs while the shell regions provide tight shell around the core which can minimize degradation.
